Oil trucks blocked on Pine Ridge Indian reservation

WANBLEE (AP) — Opponents of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline blocked two large trucks for six hours on South Dakota's Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Protestor Debra White Plume tells the media that the group stopped the Canada-bound trucks Monday in Wanblee and asked the drivers why they were going through the reservation. She says the truckers told the group they were heading to a Canadian oil field with empty containers for drinking water and were driving through the reservation to save money.

White Plume says she, her husband and three other people eventually were arrested for disorderly conduct and released about three hours later. The trucks continued on their way under police escort.

President Barack Obama in January temporarily halted the $7 billion Canada-to-Texas Keystone XL oil pipeline.
