The city of Sturgis netted nearly $240,000 for the 2011 rally.
STURGIS (AP) — As organizers gear up for the 2012 Sturgis motorcycle rally, the final tally is in on the 2011 edition.
The city of Sturgis netted nearly $240,000 for last year’s rally.
The income was $1.4 million, while expenses were about $900,000.
Sturgis City Manager Daniel said the city donated $40,000 to local rally charities, meaning about $200,000 was put into the city’s general fund.
Rally Department Director Brenda Vasknetz says the 2012 rally will feature a new attraction on Main Street called the South Dakota Experience. Most of the rally’s income comes from vendor fees, property rentals, sponsorships and advertising revenue.
