SDSU women beat Western Illinois

BROOKINGS — South Dakota State’s senior duo of Jennie Sunnarborg and Mitchell native Jill Young combined for 41 points in their final regular-season game, leading the Jackrabbit women’s basketball team to a 101-61 victory over Western Illinois Monday night. Monday night was also senior night for the Jackrabbits.
SDSU improved to 21-8 overall and 16-2 in Summit League play. SDSU shot 39-of-67 from the field for 58 percent and went 15-of-21 from the free-throw line for 71.4 percent. Sunnarborg led all scorers with 23 points. Young added 18 points.
Top-seeded SDSU will face No. 8 Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in the opening game of the Summit League basketball championship at noon on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
South Dakota women top IPFW

VERMILLION — USD’s Amber Hegge had 28 points and 10 rebounds in a 70-56 win over IPFW Monday night in a women’s college basketball game.
Annie Roche had 12 points and the Coyotes shot 43 percent from the field.
USD (21-7, 12-6 Summit) led 33-20 at halftime. IPFW was led by Amanda Hyde’s 14 points.
USD finished in third place in the SummitLeague standings.
