Area wrestlers going after state titles

Three Mitchell wrestlers and several Mitchell-area wrestlers will be going after state championships tonight.
Mitchell High School qualified Lakin Neugebauer (126), Jason Greenway (160) and Brent Havlik (170) for Class A state championship matches. Neugebauer, who holds a record of 32-4, will meet Sturgis’ Morgan Engbrecht in the finals. Engbrecht is 45-0 this season.
Greenway (39-1) will meet Huron’s Hartman Katz (26-10) in the finals, and Havlik (38-1) will wrestle Dell Rapids’ Jackson Entringer (45-8) for a state title. Havlik defeated Rapid City Central’s Aero Amo 4-2 in overtime Saturday morning in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. The Class A state tournament is being held in Aberdeen at the Barnett Center on the Northern State University campus.
At the Class B tournament in Rapid City, Winner has three wrestlers in the finals, including 120-pounder Sean Bice, who’s 36-6 this season. Bice will wrestle Tri-Valley’s Ryan Schuman (47-0) in the finals. Winner’s Tyce Meyer (160) will meet Hot Springs’ Brady Harkless in the finals. Meyer is 34-7 this season and Harkless is 27-2. Tate Novotny (170) is 41-5 this season, and he will wrestle McCook Central/Montrose’s Dominic Blindert (51-1) in the finals.
Wagner’s Alex Kocer qualified for the state championship at 152 pounds. He is going for his fifth straight state title. The senior who’s 45-0 will wrestle Newell’s Taygen Schuelke (28-2) for the championship. Wagner’s Tyler Dion (34-4) qualified for the 126-pound title match. He will wrestle Redfield/Doland’s Ben Gillette, who’s 40-0.
Howard also has two wrestlers in championship matches. The Tigers’ Luke Loudenburg (106) and Bailey Neises (113) are going after state titles. Loudenburg (43-1) will meet Beresford’s Justin Haneke (44-3), and Neises (30-13) will meet Webster’s Nolan Richie (39-1) in the finals.
Parkston’s Mitch Heisinger (30-12) is wrestling Canton’s Logen Dolen (39-2) for the 145-pound championship.
