YANKTON (AP) — Dakota Plains Ag Center is planning a multimillion-dollar elevator facility in Yankton County.
The Parkston-based company says the loading point three miles northwest of the city of Yankton would load 110-car "shuttle" trains within 10 hours. General manager Bill Beukema says Dakotan Plains would offer producers as much as 7 cents more per bushel of grain than area elevators to get the volume necessary to keep the Dakota Plains Napa Junction facility profitable.
The media reports that Dakota Plains wants to begin construction of the $28 million first phase this year and have it complete by the 2013 harvest. Expansions such as a fertilizer warehouse facility are envisioned during the following five years.
County Commission Chairman Bruce Jensen says some local elevators have concerns about the project.
