ABERDEEN (AP) — Crews cleaning up after a pipeline leak in northeast South Dakota are turning their focus from recovering the spilled diesel fuel to removing contaminated soil.

NuStar Energy spokesman Greg Matula tells the media that as much as 500 barrels leaked Monday before the pipeline was shut down. State environmental officials have said there is no danger to the public.

The cause of the leak is still not known. Matula says federal officials have approved the company's repair plan and repairs are under way.

The pipeline runs between Aberdeen and Jamestown, N.D. Matula says the shutdown of the pipe has not affected diesel availability in the region.
