SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Dakotas-based Sanford Health has dedicated the biggest project in its history.
About 200 people turned out for the Wednesday dedication of the $75 million heart hospital in Sioux Falls that opens to patients on March 5. The media reports that the initial hiring of more than 100 workers for the hospital at Sanford's midtown campus means Sanford will be the first private business in city history to have more than 5,000 employees in one place.
CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft says Sanford also plans a hotel attached to its main hospital and a breast health center on the same campus.
Sanford's cross-town rival, Avera, has run a heart hospital in Sioux Falls since 2001.
Sanford Health is based in Sioux Falls and in Fargo, N.D.
