Mitchell man pleads guilty to failure to register as a sex offender

A 47-year-old Mitchell man pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender in Davison County court on Tuesday.

Rickie Dean Schryvers was arrested Jan. 4 for failing to register as a sex offender in Davison County in December 2011. He entered a guilty plea before Judge Sean O’Brien at the Davison County Public Safety Center on Tuesday morning.

In exchange for his plea, the state agreed to recommend a suspended execution of sentence.

Failure to register as a sex offender is a felony with a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.

Schryvers was convicted of 11 counts of possession of child sexually abusive material in Michigan in 2007.

Judge O’Brien ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for April 3.
