Diesel fuel pipeline leak near Aberdeen being cleaned up

ABERDEEN (AP) — A spokesman for NuStar Energy says it could take as long as 10 days to clean up diesel after a pipeline leak a couple of miles north of Aberdeen.

ABERDEEN (AP) — A spokesman for NuStar Energy says it could take as long as 10 days to clean up diesel after a pipeline leak a couple of miles north of Aberdeen.

Greg Matula tells the media that 500 barrels or less leaked Monday. The San Antonio-based company is looking into the cause.

The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources is among several agencies involved with the cleanup. Environmental Senior Scientist Kim McIntosh says there's no danger to the public. There are no houses near the leak, which affected less than a half acre of land. Matula says contaminated soil is being removed and replaced.

The pipeline was shut down when a self-monitoring system detected the leak Monday. NuStar says the shutdown will not affect the region's diesel supply.
