BROOKINGS (AP) — A group of engineering students at South Dakota State University is traveling to Bolivia next month as part of a five-year commitment to improve drinking water safety and sanitation in one village.

SDSU’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders will be heading to a university in Carmen Pampa, Bolivia, during the school’s spring break next month to gather information about the local water system in order to construct and install treatment units for disinfection.

Several students from the group are planning a third trip this summer to install the chlorination units. They currently are in the process of trying to raise the $25,000 necessary to cover travel and construction costs.

Professor Bruce Berdanier says the project provides SDSU with a chance to develop international learning opportunities.
