Four Mitchell High School students have been petitioned into juvenile court on unspecified drug charges relating to a Feb. 9 incident on high school property, Mitchell Police Detective Lt. Don Everson said Monday.

“Some kids were smoking marijuana in the car prior to school,” Everson said. “Some of them walked into the office area afterwards and some school employees had smelled marijuana on their person.”

The school immediately started an investigation and called in police.

Everson said after the incident that some students were returned to the custody of school officials and some to the custody of their parents.

Police would not identify the juveniles by age or gender, but only as “high school-age kids.”
