LEWISTON, Mont. — A former Wessington Springs woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Montana early Saturday.

MaLeen Johnson Doll, 49, was killed when the semi-tanker driven by Marvin Laib, 52, of Mandan, N.D., skidded after Laib slammed on his brakes to avoid a deer at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

A load of molasses shifted, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Fox, and caused the semi to roll and the trailer to come loose. Doll was killed in the crash, which took place on U.S. Highway 87 about 10 miles east of Lewistown in south-central Montana, Fox said.

Laib was only slightly injured and was treated and released.

Fox said no charges were filed but the investigation continues.

Doll’s daughter, who lives in Mitchell, said her mother lived in Wessington Springs before moving from the area a few years ago.
