Bridgewater-Emery defeats Freeman Academy 40-36

SALEM — Bridgewater-Emery defeated Freeman Academy 40-36 on Saturday in the first round of girls’ District 7B action. Bridgewater-Emery was led by Liz Schnabel, who had a double-double for the game scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Justine Dye added 14 points.

SALEM — Bridgewater-Emery defeated Freeman Academy 40-36 on Saturday in the first round of girls’ District 7B action.

Bridgewater-Emery was led by Liz Schnabel, who had a double-double for the game scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Justine Dye added 14 points.

Bridgewater-Emery shot 10-of-60 from the field (16 percent) and went 20-of-25 from the free-throw line (80 percent). Tiana Kayser grabbed 10 of Bridgewater-Emery’s 37 rebounds. Bridgewater-Emery had 18 turnovers.

Jamie Tschetter led Freeman Academy with a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Chelsea Wentz added nine points and Clara Koerner had seven.

Freeman Academy shot 11-of-48 from the field and went 13-of-24 from the free-throw line. Koerner led Freeman Academy in rebounds, she grabbed 17. Freeman Academy had 40 total rebounds and 22 turnovers.

Bridgewater-Emery improves to 10-11 and plays Parker for the District 7B semi-final game on Tuesday in Tea.

Canistota 51, Marion 37

SALEM — Canistota defeated Marion 51-37 in the first round of girls’ District 7B action on Saturday.

Canistota was led in scoring by Haley Jerman, who scored 14 points. Kayla Marquardt added 13. Canistota shot 13-of-33 from the field (39 percent) and went 22-of-40 from the free-throw line (55 percent). Jerman grabbed nine of Canistota’s 33 rebounds. Canistota had 21 turnovers.

Marion was led in scoring by Katherine Luke, who had 14 points. Kylie Hughes added nine points and Devin Nelson had eight points. Marion had 21 total rebounds and 20 turnovers.

Canistota improves to 13-8 with the win and plays Freeman on Tuesday in the District 7B semifinals in Tea.

Andes Central 38, Colome 36

COLOME — Andes Central defeated Colome 38-36 on Saturday in the first round of girls’ District 12B action.

Kellie Winckler led Andes Central with a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Krista Winckler added eight points. Morgan Flying Hawk grabbed eight rebounds.

Andes Central shot 14-of-41 from the field (34 percent) and went 10-of-23 from the free-throw line (43 percent). Andes Central had 22 total turnvoers.

Colome’s Skyler Forgey grabbed nine rebounds. Colome shot 12-of-42 from the field (29 percent) and went 8-of-13 from the free-throw line (54 percent). Colome had 14 total turnovers.

Andes Central improves to 6-13 and will play South Central at the Corn palace today for its next action.

Avon 70, Menno 27

MENNO— Avon defeated Menno 70-27 on Saturday in the first round of girls’ District 11B action. Avon was led by LaNae VanGerpen, who had a double-double for the game scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Paige Vilhauer and Shayna Nagel added 13 points each. Ariana Oorlog had 12 points and Voni Finck had 10 points.

Avon shot 26-of-55 from the field (47 percent) and went 6-of-11 from the free-throw line (55 percent). Avon had 40 total rebounds and 12 turnovers.

Menno was led in scoring by Alicia Kulish, who had seven points. Kylee Kessler and Tessa Goehring each added six points. Kulish also recorded five rebounds. Menno had 23 total rebounds and 25 turnovers.

Menno shot 9-of-34 from the field (26 percent) and went 6-of-14 from the free-throw line (43 percent).

Avon is back in action on Tuesday when it plays Hanson.

TRIPP — Tripp-Delmont/Armour defeated Marty Indian 62-38 on Saturday in girls District 12B action. TDA was led in scoring by Hannah Just, who had 15 points. LaNae Furst added 13 poitns and Kelli Batterman had 10 points.

TDA shot 19-of-59 from the field and went 18-of-40 from the free-throw line. TDA had 38 total rebounds and 12 total turnovers. Batterman grabbed 10 rebounds. Just had six steals and five assists.

Marty Indian was led in scoring by Dominic Diaz had 11 points and Amanda Iron-Elk added 10. Marty Indian had 25 turnovers and 30 rebounds.

Lyman 68, Kadoka 38

LYMAN— Lyman defeated Kadoka 68-38 on Saturday in boys’ high school basketball action. Lyman was led in scoring by Charlie LaRoche, who scored 20 points. Jaylen Uthe added 14 points and Hunder Schindler and Stetsen Eriksen each had nine points. Lyman shot 24-of-50 from the field and went 13-of-25 from the free-throw line. Schindler grabbed 11 rebounds and Eriksen had 10 rebounds. Lyman had 43 total rebounds and 21 turnovers.

Kadoka was led in scoring by Kenar VanderMay, who scored 13 points. Sean Ireland, Logan Christensen, Brady Sudbeck and Luke Morrison each added six points.

Lyman improves to 13-6 with the win and plays White River for its next game on Friday.

Mount Vernon 64, Parkston 54

PARKSTON — Mount Vernon defeated Parkston 64-54 Friday night in boys’ high school basketball action. Mount Vernon was led in scoring by Cameron Deinert, who had 18 points. Jacob Sonne added 17 points and Jared Long had 16 points.

Mount Vernon shot 23-of-41 from the field (56 percent) and went 14-of-26 from the free-throw line (53 percent) Dean Frey grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Mount Vernon had 29 total rebounds and 15 total turnovers.

Parkston was led in scoring by Zach Scott, who had a team-high 16 points. Tanner Weber added 14 points and Parker Van Zee had 13 points.

Parkston shot 22-of-49 from the field (44 percent) and went 3-of-7 from the free-throw line (42 percent). Parkston had 24 total rebounds and 15 total turnovers.

South Central 46, Avon 40

AVON —South Central defeated Avon 46-40 on Saturday in boys’ high school basketball action. South Central was led in scoring by Tyler Frank, who recorded 14 points. South Central had 22 total rebounds and six turnovers. South Central shot 15-of-44 from the field (34 percent) and went 4-of-7 from the free-throw line (57 percent).

Avon was led by Luke VanGerpen, who had a double-double for the night scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Johnny Wynia added 12 points.

Avon had 24 total rebounds and eight turnovers.

Avon shot 13-of-21 from the field (62 percent) and went 2-of-6 from the free-throw line (33 percent).
