February Youth in the Garden webinars scheduled

BROOKINGS — SDSU Extension will discuss garden resources, grant opportunities and growing transplants during the February Youth in the Garden Webinar.
“These webinars are perfect for school teachers and afterschool and summer garden program leaders — basically, anyone who works with youth and would like to see youth step outside and embrace gardening,” said Chris Zdorovtsov, SDSU Extension community development field specialist.
The webinars will run the last Wednesday of the month from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. An additional webinar will run during the growing season.
Webinars are an hour long and will typically have two presentation topics running 15 to 20 minutes each, with about 20 minutes for a discussion session within the learning community.

Schedule:
Feb. 29: Presentation 1: “Garden Resources,” discussion led by Karlys Wells, SDSU Extension associate, family nutrition program/team nutrition.
Presentation 2: “Growing Transplants,” discussion led by Geoffrey Njue, SDSU Extension specialty crops field specialist.
Discussion Time: “SDSU Minigrants & Funding Q&A,” discussion led by Marilyn Rasmussen, SDSU Extension 4-H/youth development specialist; and Chris Zdorovtsov, SDSU Extension community development field Specialist.
March 28: Presentation 1: “Vegetable Gardening 101,” discussion led by Rhoda Burrows, SDSU Extension fruit and vegetable specialist.
Presentation 2: “Scheduling the Plantings,” discussion led by Chris Zdorovtsov.
Discussion Time: “Youth Gardening Project Summaries from Participants,” discussion led by Zdorovtsov.
April 25: Presentation 1: “Building Raised Beds,” by Zdorovtsov.
Presentation 2: “Resourcing the Garden Program: People and Money,” Tim Olsen, director, Ground Works.
Discussion Time: “More Youth Gardening Project Summaries from Participants,” discussion led by Zdorovtsov.
Additional webinars are scheduled for May 16, May 30, June 13, June 27 and July 11.
