Lower Brule man sentenced on assault charge

A Lower Brule man charged with assault with a dangerous weapon was sentenced on Monday for threatening a woman with a handgun.

A Lower Brule man charged with assault with a dangerous weapon was sentenced on Monday for threatening a woman with a handgun.

John R. Estes II, 35, was sentenced in federal court Monday to six months in custody, six months of home confinement and two years of supervised release.

Estes pleaded guilty to the charge in November 2011 after being indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2011.

The charge relates to an incident in April 2011, when Estes had an argument with the female victim, during which he pointed a handgun at her and threatened to kill her.
