Area high school basketball roundup: Kimball/White Lake tops Dakota Christian

NEW HOLLAND — Kimball/White Lake came back from an eight-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to defeat Dakota Christian 54-52 in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.

Jesse Taylor had a double-double for the WiLdKats with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor also had six steals. Jacob Kirsch scored 17 points and had five steals.

Kimball/White Lake shot 21-of-56 from the field and 11-of-17 from the free-throw line. The WiLdKats grabbed 34 rebounds as a team and committed 10 turnovers.

Michael Buitenbos scored 27 points and had four assists for the Cadets. Jake Spoelstra scored 13 points and had eight rebounds.

Dakota Christian shot 21-of-41 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. The Cadets grabbed 23 total rebounds and had 20 turnovers.

Kimball/White Lake (11-4) hosts Wessington Springs Tuesday in White Lake. Dakota Christian (6-10) plays at James Valley Christian today.

MENNO — Canistota kept Menno from scoring in the fourth quarter to defeat the Wolves 62-20 Thursday.

Jason Van Winkle scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Cody Bunger scored 15 points. Alex Robertson had 11 assists and six steals.

The Hawks made 28-of-59 field goal attempts and 8-of-10 free throw attempts. Canistota grabbed 31 rebounds as a team and had six turnovers.

Ben Fischer was the leading scorer for Menno with seven points. The Wolves made 8-of-30 field goal attempts and 1-of-2 free throw attempts. Menno grabbed 16 rebounds as a team and committed 19 turnovers.

Canistota (14-2) plays Rosholt Saturday in the DWU Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Menno (6-12) hosts Viborg/Hurley Tuesday.

Canistota won the junior varsity game with a final score 39-26.

FREEMAN — Ryan Hongslo had a double-double to lead Corsica/Stickney over Freeman 55-50 Thursday.

Hongslo scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Aaron Groeneweg scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds and had three assists.

Corsica/Stickney shot 20-of-43 from the field and 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. The team had 32 total rebounds and 19 turnovers.

Jordan Rinehart was the top player for the Flyers with 12 points and eight rebounds. Cole Paulson scored 10 points. Caleb Long grabbed six rebounds. Shaun Becker had six assists and three blocks.

BONESTEEL — South Central jumped to an early lead in its 52-23 win over Andes Central Thursday.

Tyler Frank scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for South Central. Derek Sachtjen scored 10 points and had three assists.

South Central shot 20-of-55 from the field and 10-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Cougars had 37 total rebounds and 17 turnovers.

Gabe Cornoyer scored eight points and had four assists for Andes Central. Zach Cornoy scored five points and had two assists.
