Mitchell’s Rew sets individual bests for ASU

LOGAN, Utah — The Arizona State women’s gymnastics team is 4-0 on the season after strong performances by Mitchell native Amelia Rew.

Rew, a junior at ASU, scored two career bests on both bars and beam on Friday in Logan, Utah, as the Sun Devils defeated Utah State.

In her lineup debut on beam, Rew scored a meet-high 9.8 to win the event. She finished with the third-best overall score at the meet after scoring a career best 9.775 on bars.

New head football coach named at Black Hills State

SPEARFISH (AP) — Black Hills State University has named a new head football coach.

Offensive coordinator John Reiners will take over for Jay Long, who is leaving after three years to become the head coach at Chadron State in Nebraska.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports that Reiners came to BHSU after 15 seasons as an assistant at Chadron State. He also was the head track and field coach for 15 seasons at Chadron.

Keegan, Hawkins to guest tonight at Quarterback Club

The guest speakers for the Mitchell Quarterback Club tonight at the Depot will be Ethan head girls’ basketball coach Kyle Keegan and Ethan head boys’ basketball coach Tim Hawkins.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

DWU softball adds another recruit

The Dakota Wesleyan softball team added to its list of recruits for the 2013 season on Tuesday.

Head softball coach Ed Kieff announced the addition of infielder Alex Davis. Davis, a Chula Vista, Calif., native, marks the fourth recruit for DWU this year that hails from California.

Hegge leads USD past UNO, 58-38

VERMILLION — The South Dakota women’s basketball team beat Nebraska-Omaha 58-38 in nonconference action on Tuesday night at the DakotaDome.

Amber Hegge scored 14 points to lead the Coyotes.
