MCHS girls fall to SB Academy

MILLER — The Mitchell Christian girls’ basketball team lost 56-47 to Sunshine Bible Academy on Monday night.

Mitchell Christian dropped to 7-10 on the season while SBA improved to 10-6.

“It was a game we let slip away that we shouldn’t have,” Mitchell Christian’s head coach Jackie Van Laecken said.

SBA came out firing early and led by seven points after the first quarter, but Mitchell Christian chipped away at that lead, closing the gap to just a single point heading into the final quarter of play.

“It came down to the last two minutes,” Van Laecken said. “We had a couple mistakes and it just went the other way.”

Mitchell Christian had a balanced attack, with three girls scoring in double-digits.

Katelyn Held led the team with 15 points, while Khiree Held put up 14 and Alexa Van Laecken added 10.

SBA also had three scorers in double digits. Shanna Moreland finished the night with a game-high 16 points. She also added 12 rebounds, second only to Bethany LaDue’s 13.

Tricia Wilken finished with 15 points for SBA and Kalli Quicke added 14 points to go along with her nine assists.

Mitchell Christian hosts James Valley Christian (8-7) tonight at Mitchell Christian School, while SBA doesn’t play until Feb. 14 when it travels to Onida to take on Sully Buttes (14-2). SBA won the JV game 28-18.
