PIERRE (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard is appointing assistant attorney general Patricia DeVaney as a circuit judge in South Dakota's sixth judicial circuit.

DeVaney is filling a vacancy created last year when Daugaard appointed Judge Lori S. Wilbur to the state Supreme Court.

Daugaard describes DeVaney as a talented attorney who has distinguished herself during two decades of service as an assistant attorney general.

The Polo native says she has worked hard to represent the people of South Dakota and will work just as hard as a judge to administer justice fairly.

The sixth circuit covers Bennett, Gregory, Haakon, Hughes, Hyde, Jackson, Jones, Lyman, Mellette, Potter, Stanley, Sully, Todd and Tripp counties.
