PIERRE (AP) — A community organization is recognizing a Pierre pastor for his volunteer work during the area's flooding last year.
Lutheran Social Services has named Pastor Don Block its 2011 Distinguished Volunteer.
The organization recognized Block's leadership and hard work during the Missouri River flooding in Pierre and Ft. Pierre. It says Block's Lutheran Memorial Church opened its doors, providing a stable location for flood victims, volunteers and business contacts.
Block also served as the Oahe Long-Term Disaster Recovery Team president.
The group also recognized Grace Lutheran Church of Sturgis as its Distinguished Congregational Partner and the Sioux Empire United Way as its Distinguished Community Partner.
