MADISON (AP) — Authorities in South Dakota's Lake County are continuing their search for a suspect after a shooting in Madison that injured a person.

Shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's office said no one had yet been taken into custody and law officers were still combing the area.

The shooting occurred about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, prompting police to ask residents not to answer their doors. The media reported residents in the area left on their porch lights in hopes of helping police spot anyone suspicious. All buildings at Dakota State University were locked.

The identity and condition of the victim weren't immediately known.

Longtime resident Dana Spader tells the media that she's terrified. She says she locked her house and sat in darkness after hearing of the shooting because she was so scared.
