Area high school basketball roundup: Scotland edges Freeman in overtime

FREEMAN — Scotland scored 15 points in overtime to defeat Freeman 72-65 in a girls’ high school basketball basketball game Tuesday.

FREEMAN — Scotland scored 15 points in overtime to defeat Freeman 72-65 in a girls’ high school basketball basketball game Tuesday.

Haley Brunke scored 24 points for Scotland in the win. Aish Abbink scored 18 points. Ashley Alvey scored 11 points and had seven rebounds. Jaymie Barrett had six assists.

Scotland made 18-of-42 field goal attempts and 16-of-26 free throw attempts. The Highlanders had 32 team rebounds and seven turnovers.

Paige Herrboldt scored a game-high 34 points for Freeman. Dina Soulek scored 17 points and had six rebounds and eight assists.

The Flyers made 20-of-58 field goal attempts and 13-of-16 free throw attempts. Freeman had 28 team rebounds and 11 turnovers.

Scotland is 12-4 and hosts Parkston Monday. Freeman is 10-6 and plays Alcester-Hudson Thursday in Alcester.

Corsica/Stickney 39, South Central 28

CORSICA — Hope Menning scored 15 points to lead Corsica/Stickney over South Central 39-28 Tuesday in a girls’ basketball game.

Cassie Bamberg scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for Corsica/Stickney. Emily Van Roekel had six assists and six steals.

Corsica/Stickney shot 17-of-40 from the field and 4-of-15 from the free-throw line. The team had 23 rebounds and 13 turnovers.

Taylor Pistulka was the high scorer for South Central with nine points. Chloe Kenzy scored six points and had seven rebounds. Ashley Green had five rebounds.

South Central shot 13-of-28 from the field and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. The Cougars had 18 rebounds and 25 turnovers.

Corsica/Stickney is 9-6 and plays Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Thursday in Forestburg. South Central is 12-6 and plays at Dakota Christian Thursday in New Holland.

Corsica/Stickney won the junior varsity game 36-19.

FREEMAN — Freeman Academy had two players with double-doubles as the Bobcats defeated Marty Indian 73-31 Tuesday.

Jamie Tschetter scored 29 points and had 14 rebounds for Freeman Academy. Hannah Yoder scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds. Natalie Miller scored 10 points. Clara Koerner had 17 rebounds and five steals. Bethany Wollman had five assists.

Freeman Academy shot 32-of-81 from the field 9-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Bobcats had 61 team rebounds and 13 turnovers.

Amanda Iron Elk scored 14 points for Marty Indian. Jordan Drapeau scored 10 points. Rose Drapeau had 19 rebounds.

Marty shot 11-of-63 from the field and 7-of-13 from the free-throw line. The team had 42 rebounds and 24 turnovers.

Freeman Academy is 3-11 and hosts Gayville-Volin Thursday. Marty Indian is 2-11 and hosts Tripp-Delmont/Armour Friday.

Darbi Gustafson scored 18 points and had five assists for Ethan. Bailey Grenoble scored 13 points. Shelly Tilberg scored 10 points and had five assists. Morgan Tuttle had 12 rebounds and five assists.

Ethan shot 22-of-45 from the field and 9-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Rustlers had 34 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

Julie Mingo scored 11 points for Tripp-Delmont/Armour. Kelli Batterman scored nine points. The Nighthawks shot 5-of-12 from the free-throw line.

MENNO — Avon improved to 7-6 on the season with a 53-27 win over Menno Tuesday.

Chesney Nagel scored 19 points and had four steals for Avon. Lanae Van Gerpen scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.

The Lady Pirates made 20-of-54 field goal attempts and 12-of-22 free throw attempts. Avon had 32 rebounds and nine turnovers.

Kylee Kessler scored nine points and had eight rebounds for Menno. Ashton Diede scored eight points. Courtney Schaeffer had six rebounds and four assists. Christina Herrboldt had four steals.

The Wolves made 8-of-34 field goals attempts and 9-of-24 free throws. Menno had 30 rebounds and 25 turnovers.

Avon is 7-6 and hosts Bon Homme Thursday. Menno is 6-10 and hosts Marion Thursday.

MOUNT VERNON — The Huskies of Bridgewater-Emery improved to 7-9 with a 53-25 win over Mount Vernon Tuesday.

Elizabeth Schnabel scored 15 points and had six rebounds for Bridgewater-Emery. Mackenzie Schultz scored 11 points. Justine Dye scored 10 points and had seven assists.

Bridgewater-Emery shot 24-of-61 from the field and 5-of-14 from the free-throw line. The Huskies had 22 rebounds and 20 turnovers.

Mount Vernon was led by Haley Delancey with six points. The Fillies shot 9-of-31 from the field and 6-of-18 from the free-throw line. Mount Vernon had 20 rebounds and 27 turnovers.

Bridgewater-Emery is plays 7-9 and hosts Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Monday. Mount Vernon is 0-15 and hosts Canistota Thursday.

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson had four players score in double figures as the Beaverettes defeated Dakota Christian 73-42 Tuesday.

Hanson’s lead scorer was Cassidy Graham with 18 points. Ashley Robinson scored 16 points. Kelli Wenande scored 12 points and Hailey Doyle scored 11. Lindsi Dey had nine rebounds and Kendra Cheeseman had 10 assists.

Hanson shot 31-of-61 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. The Beaverettes had 32 team rebounds and 24 turnovers.

Sara De Waard had a double-double for Dakota Christian with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Laurel Zomer scored 13 points and had eight rebounds. Brooklyn Vander Pol had nine assists.

The Lady Cadets shot 15-of-54 from the field and 12-of-23 from the free-throw line. Dakota Christian had 33 rebounds and 27 turnovers.

Hanson is 14-3 and hosts Freeman Tuesday. Dakota Christian is 6-8 and hosts South Central Thursday.

PLATTE — Shelby Rabenberg made six consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter to seal a 47-42 win for Platte-Geddes over Chamberlain Tuesday.

Kelly Knudson scored 12 points for the Black Panthers. Rabenberg scored 10 points. Kellee Griese had six rebounds and four steals.

Platte-Geddes shot 14-of-40 from the field for 35 percent and 16-of-20 from the free-throw line for 80 percent.

Jayme Knippling led Chamberlain in scoring with 12 points. Kennedy Wagner added 11 points.

The Cubs shot 18-of-41 from the field for 44 percent and 4-of-11 from the free-throw line for 36 percent.

SALEM — Parkston’s Erica Herrold had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 58-39 win over McCook Central/Montrose Tuesday night.

Parkston’s Logan Wagner had 14 points and seven rebounds and Marie Malloy had five assists.

Parkston was 25-of-56 from the field, 2-of-4 from the free-throw line and had 30 rebounds.

MCM’s Katie Binder had 12 points and six rebounds and Taylor Hoiten and Rachel Bartscher each had six points.

The Fighting Cougars were 17-of-53 from the field, 7-of-13 from the free-throw line and had 18 turnovers. MCM had 25 rebounds.

Parkston (10-3) won the JV game and plays Gregory on Friday in Gregory, MCM (5-10) plays Thursday against Garretson in Montrose.

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Trevor Kenobbie scored 14 points to lead Wessington Springs over Iroqouis 67-34 Tuesday.

Corwin Miller scored 10 points for the Spartans. Terrek Butterfield and Jase Kraft each scored eight points. Gus Gran had six assists.

Wessington Springs shot 19-of-76 from the field and 7-of-12 from the free-throw line. The Spartans had 37 rebounds and 10 turnovers.

Jordan Colungo scored 19 points for Iroquois. Chase Decker scored eight points. The Chiefs shot 14-of-50 from the field and 2-of-7 from the free-throw line. Iroquois had 20 rebounds and 17 turnovers.

Wessington Springs is 7-7 and plays Colome in Highmore Saturday. Iroquois is 0-13 and plays at James Valley Christian Thursday.

Viborg/Hurley shot 52.4 percent from the field and 6-of-12 from the free throw line. The Cougars had 22 rebounds and 13 turnovers.

Platte-Geddes was led by Richard Sternberg with 14 points. Cody Wagner scored 10 points.

Adam Bormann scored 17 points and had seven rebounds. Aaron Groeneweg had 10 rebounds and six steals. Hongslo had eight rebounds.

Corsica/Stickney shot 19-of-46 from the field and 16-of-29 from the free-throw line.

Tyler Frank led South Central with nine points and five rebounds. Derek Sachtjen, Dakota Votaw, and Sam Hazen each scored six points.

The Mustangs shot 15-of-40 from the field and 19-of-25 from the free-throw line. Mount Vernon had 29 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

Seth Wethor was the leading scorer for Bridgewater-Emery with 17 points. Clayton Dye scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds.
