To the Editor:
Obama has rejected the Keystone pipeline for now, until the government would have time to thoroughly research the new route that has been selected. Of course, right away the Republicans jumped all over him for not signing it right away, claiming it would create 20,000 new jobs. But there have been other estimates that it would only create 3,000 new jobs.
Of course Obama knew the Republicans would be all over him to use it to try and keep him from being reelected. But on the contrary that shows that Obama is more interested in what is good for the environment, the people and the future of the country instead of what might help him get reelected. That is more than can be said of the Republicans who would do anything to prevent Obama from getting reelected, even if they could keep the economy from recovering before election and then blame it on the president and the Democrats.
If the pipeline was rushed through before the new route was thoroughly researched there might be some serious consequences afterwards that we might all regret.
