RAPID CITY (AP) — About 400 airmen have returned home to Ellsworth Air Force Base in western South Dakota after a six-month deployment to southwest Asia.

Family and friends welcomed the bomber crews on Wednesday. One of the airmen, Kymric Walker, met his infant son for the first time. Most of the airmen will get a couple weeks of leave.

Lt. Col. John Martin says the airmen took part in 640 missions, more than any previous B-1 bomber deployment.
