Deadline extended to register for Pierre fishing event

PIERRE (AP) — Organizers of the Pierre Winter Fishing Weekend have extended the deadline to register online.

Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Laura Schoen Carbonneau says that so far, 80 teams have registered. That's ahead of last year's pace, when 120 teams fished. Interested anglers can register online up until the two-day event begins Feb. 3.

Carbonneau tells the media that anglers should register in advance because "the more people we know are coming and fishing, the more prizes we will have."

The website for the second-annual event says cash prizes will be awarded for biggest fish and total weight. People can fish from boats, shore or ice, if conditions allow. Anglers must register in two-person teams. There's a 200-team maximum.
