OACOMA — A Winner man suffered minor injuries after his semi truck tipped on Interstate 90 Monday afternoon.
Kenneth Curtis, 63, Winner, was driving westbound from Volga to Winner on I-90 when his 2007 Freightliner loaded with soybean mill swerved off the shoulder of the road around 3:30 p.m. near mile marker 259, one mile west of the Oacoma exit.
According to Trooper Mike Welter of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Curtis over-corrected, causing the back of the trailer to sway into the median, entering the eastbound lane.
The semi tipped onto its side.
Debris from the accident closed the eastbound lanes for about an hour, backing up traffic, Welter said.
Curtis suffered minor injuries. He was treated and released from Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain.
Curtis was cited for failure to maintain his lane and received a Class 2 .04 commercial motor vehicle DUI.
The Missouri Valley Ambulance, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Lyman and Brule County sheriffs’ offices, Chamberlain and Lower Brule police departments, a South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officer and the South Dakota Department of Transportation responded to the accident.
