FORT PIERRE (AP) — A Fort Pierre man is accused of blasting a shotgun through the passenger-side window of a vehicle after its female driver got stuck in a ditch.

Thirty-two-year-old Derek Boe faces two felony charges — aggravated assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The alleged victim told police that her vehicle got stuck in a ditch on Nystrom Road in rural Hughes County on Saturday night. Boe allegedly approached the vehicle with a shotgun and fired it once, shattering the window and causing glass and debris to strike the woman.

Hughes County Sheriff Mike Leidholt says Boe was being held at the county jail Monday. No bond had been set. It wasn't clear Monday if Boe had a lawyer.
