Vehicle and grass fire leads to arrests for DUI, disorderly conduct

Authorities tell the media that the three men fled the scene just after midnight Saturday when their car became stuck in a field and the grass beneath the vehicle caught fire.

BOX ELDER (AP) — A vehicle blaze and grass fire in the South Dakota town of Box Elder led authorities to arrest two men and ticket a third.

Authorities tell the media that the three men fled the scene just after midnight Saturday when their car became stuck in a field and the grass beneath the vehicle caught fire. Police found the 19-year-old driver near the scene and arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving. He was treated at a Rapid City hospital for unspecified injuries.

Authorities say a second man returned to the scene and was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge when he became aggressive with officers. Police found the third man at a home and cited him for underage drinking.

Officials with five area fire departments responded to put out the grass fire.
