Spartans fall to Redfield-Doland 60-50

REDFIELD — Gus Gran scored a game-high 20 points, but Wessington Springs fell to Redfield-Doland on Saturday.
Trevor Knobbie led Wessington Springs with 11 rebounds.
Redfield-Doland was led by Ephram Albrecht, who had 18 points, and Dallas Kiehn, who had 17 points. Albrecht also led his team in rebounds with nine.
Redfield-Doland out-rebounded Wessington Springs 37-28.

St. Francis 56, Freeman 51
ST. FRANCIS — Freeman was within two points of St. Francis near the end of their game Saturday but had to foul, giving St. Francis the advantage late.
Shaun Becker led Freeman with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Other top scorers for Freeman included Chet Peterson, 13 points, and Caleb Lang, 10 points.
Freeman’s record fell to 6-5. Its next game is Tuesday against McCook Central/Montrose at Freeman.

Girls’ basketball
Alcester-Hudson 57, Canistota 33
CANISTOTA — Canistota dropped a home game to Alcester-Hudson 57-33 on Saturday.
Chloe Nielsen was the only player to score in double figures for Canistota, with 10 points. She also was the team’s co-leader in rebounds, with six. Kayla Marquardt was the other player with six rebounds.
Shenia Doering led Alcester-Hudson with 15 points.

REDFIELD — Shyanne Kopfmann scored 15 points in a losing effort for Wessington Springs on Saturday against Redfield-Doland in Redfield.
Sheyanne Brodkorb added eight points for the Spartans, who dropped to 2-11. Their next game is Thursday against Woonsocket/Sanborn Central at Woonsocket.
Redfield/Doland was led Cheyenne Bebo, with 15 points, and had three other players with 11 or more points. Redfield/Doland improved its record to 6-6.

Kadoka 67, Colome 40
FORT PIERRE — Colome lost the fifth-place game to Kadoka on Saturday at the Southern Plains Tournament in Fort Pierre.
Colome’s leading scorers were Tracy Routh and Skylar Forgey, each with 10 points. Tara Farley led the team with 10 rebounds.
Colome’s record dropped to 3-10. Its next game is Tuesday at Plankinton.

South Central 47, Jones County 38
FORT PIERRE — Ashley Green led South Central to a win in the third-place game of the Southern Plains Tournament on Saturday with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Whitney Hutchison added 14 points and nine rebounds for South Central, which improved its record to 9-5.
South Central’s next game is against Avon on Tuesday at Burke.

Friday girls’ basketball
Wagner 71, Avon 32
WAGNER — Devon Brecke scored a game-high 23 points as Wagner defeated Avon 71-32 in a girls’ basketball game Friday.
Jessa Doom scored 15 points for Wagner and had 10 rebounds. Nicole Weber scored 14 points. Alexa Cimpl had eight rebounds. Wagner shot 50 percent from the field and from the free-throw line.
Chesney Nagel scored 14 points and had five rebounds for Avon. Avon shot 56 percent from the field and 28 percent from the free-throw line.
Wagner (14-0) plays at Scotland Friday. Avon (6-4) plays at South Central in Burke Tuesday.

Colome 50, Lyman 41
COLOME — Tracy Routh scored a game-high 22 points to lead Colome over Lyman 50-41 in the second round of the Southern Plains Tournament Friday.
Skylar Forgey scored 14 points for Colome. Tara Farley had 10 rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 12-of-42 from the field and 22-of-38 from the free-throw line.
Bailey Almond scored 10 points for Lyman. Brooklyn Halverson had eight rebounds. The Raiders shot 14-of-45 from the field and 11-of-24 from the free-throw line.
Colome played Kadoka area in the final round of the tournament Saturday. Lyman also played in the final round of the tournament Saturday.

Gregory 33, South Central 31
COLOME — Gregory held South Central to two points in the fourth quarter to win 33-31 in the second round of the Southern Plains Tournament Friday.
Shelby Rajewich scored nine points for Gregory. Paxten Johnson had eight rebounds. The Lady Gorillas shot 4-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Ashley Green scored 11 points for South Central. Whitney Hutchison scored 10 points. The Cougars shot 14-of-32 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Gregory and South Central played in the final round of the tournament Saturday in Fort Pierre.

CANISTOTA — Ashley Robinson paced Hanson with 25 points in its Friday win at Canistota.
Cassidy Graham added 14 points for Hanson.
