VERMILLION (AP) — Charlie Westbrook tied his career high with 32 points, helping South Dakota erase a big early deficit and beat IUPUI 88-78 on Thursday night.

Westbrook, who also scored 32 in a Jan. 7 win over UMKC, was 12 of 18 from the field and added six rebounds and six assists for the Coyotes (7-11, 2-7 Summit). Louie Krogman chipped in 21 points, including four 3-pointers, and nine assists, and Trevor Gruis scored 18 on 9-of-11 shooting. South Dakota was 34 of 61 (56 percent) from the field.

Alex Young scored 27 points and Ian Chiles had 18 for the Jaguars (8-13, 2-7 Summit), who opened the game on a 16-5 run but ended up with their fifth straight loss in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

DWU golf teams to host winter clinic

The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s golf teams will host a winter golf clinic Feb. 25, on the Dakota Wesleyan campus.

There will be two sessions. The morning clinic will run from 9 to 11 a.m., with registration from 8:30 to 9 a.m.

The afternoon clinic will run from 1 to 3 p.m. with registration starting at 12:30 p.m.

Both sessions of the clinic will be at the Christian Family Recreation/Wellness Center on the DWU campus.

Featured instructors include Adam Anderson, Tigers head men’s and women’s golf coach coach and Jessica Williams, the DWU graduate assistant golf coach.

Cost of the camp is $25 per person. Call Anderson at 605-995-2179 or email adanders@dwu.edu as soon as possible to register.

DWU cheerleaders to host cheer camp

The Dakota Wesleyan University cheerleaders will host an annual Little Tiger Cheer camp on Jan. 28.

The camp runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Wellness Center on the DWU campus and is open to all children from kindergarten to fifth grade.

DWU head cheerleading coach Jerry Luckett, along with members of the Tiger cheerleading squad, will teach campers basic cheer moves and a few cheers.

The campers will also perform a halftime show during the Tiger men’s basketball team’s game against Doane College that same day. The men’s game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

The cost of the camp is $20 per child, which includes instruction, snacks and a camp T-shirt. For more information or to register, contact Luckett at 605-770-2773 or jelucket@dwu.edu. The registration deadline is today.

Leafs beat Wild 4-1

TORONTO (AP) — Phil Kessel scored his team-leading 25th goal and Joffrey Lupul picked up three assists to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.

Nazem Kadri, Joey Crabb and Mikhail Grabovski also had goals for Toronto.

The Wild, beset by injuries to captain Mikko Koivu, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Guillaume Latendresse, fell to 2-10-3 since Dec. 17.
