A light skiff of snow that passed through the Mitchell area late Friday and early Saturday was blamed for a single-vehicle rollover just east of Mitchell Saturday morning, according to South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Micheal Peterson.

Norman Knowlton, 58, of Alexandria, received minor injuries when he lost control and rolled his 2000 Dodge pickup on the icy road at about 9:05 a.m. Saturday, Peterson said. The accident occurred near mile marker 334 just west of the James River bridge, according to the trooper.

He said Knowlton’s truck slid into the median, hit a culvert and flipped onto its top.

“I think you can credit the fact that he was wearing his seat belt that he escaped with minor injuries,” Peterson said. Mitchell fire and ambulance crews both responded and Knowlton was taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for treatment. He was treated and released, according to a hospital staffer. No traffic citations were issued, Peterson said.
