10 MAC swimmers headed to all-star event in Kansas
Ten Mitchell Aquatic Club swimmers are set to travel to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the Midwest All-Stars Meet Sunday and Monday.
Karlie Brown (14), Tevyn Waddell (13), Christian Fossum (14), Gray Determan (14), Gage Nelson (12), Mackenzie Miller(10), Brynn Palmer(10), Cailey Scott (10), Max Alexander (10) and Ethan Huber (10) are competing as Team South Dakota in a 14-and-under regional competition that features teams from Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Colorado.
In order to qualify for Team South Dakota, swimmers had to be in the top five in the state in their events in each of their respective age groups.
Head coach Kyle Margheim was selected as the head coach for Team South Dakota for this event. The meet will take place at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center in Lawrence, Kan.
Mitchell youth wrestlers place at Mount Vernon
Mitchell AAU youth wrestling had 32 wrestlers compete in the Mount Vernon youth wrestling tournament recently. Each wrestler placed as follows:
First: Mattson Wear, Karter Sibson, Brock Sparks, Brandon Sparks, Kaileb Hubbard, Colby Ostbye, Connor Degen, Tyson Degen, Joseph VanOverschelde, Bryce Palmer; second: Sylvan Abdo, Lukas Chenoweth, Parker Philliips, Ryan McGinnis, Brodie Riggs, Jamison Wear; third: Alexander Songer, Conor Mattke, Mick Dailey, Hadley Wallace, Colby Gillen, Blake Fredricks, Logan Sparks, Dylan Soulek; fourth: Landon Soulek, Cole Gehrke, Kyler Bauder, Seth Gillen, Hayden Wallace, Kolden Bannwarth, Trent Beintema, Alex Sprinkel.
Jones County Invite pairings announced
MURDO — The 44th Annual Jones County Invitational Basketball Tournament is being held Thursday through Saturday at the Murdo Auditorium.
It is an eight-team tournament and all places will be played out. Start time for the afternoon session is 1 p.m. The evening session starts at 6:30 p.m.
Here are the first-round matchups for Thursday: Lyman vs. Stanley County at 1 p.m.; Philip vs. White River at 2:30 p.m.; Bennett County vs. Colome at 6:30 p.m.; and Jones County vs. Kadoka at 8 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Bovee signs with Dakota Wesleyan
Meghan Bovee, a San Diego, Calif., native, signed with the Dakota Wesleyan softball team for the 2013 season, it was announced Tuesday.
The 5-foot-4 softball player earned four varsity letters at the University City High school, and also played club softball for the San Diego Renegades Bovee. As a junior, Bovee had a batting average of .333. Bovee plans to major in history at DWU.
