School board to evaluate Superintendent Graves

The job performance of Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves will be discussed today by the school board.

A contract renewal for Graves is on the agenda.

The Mitchell Board of Education will meet in regular session at 5 p.m. today in the cafeteria of Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary School, 1301 N. Kimball St. The board will likely spend most of the first meeting of 2012 in executive session, as board members discuss personal evaluations as well as Graves’ evaluation.

The agenda includes board consideration to:

-Approve a bid to re-roof the north campus building on Capital Street, the home of the new Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy.

-Approve bids for an HVAC project at Mitchell Middle School. Superintendent Graves said he will recommend that the board accepted a bid from Krohmer Plumbing. The total construction cost of the project will be $641,522.

Qualified zone academy bonds will be used to finance the HVAC renovation.

-Set June 5 as the date for the joint city-school election.

-Renew the contract of Graves for the 2012-2013 school year.

-Approve the following personnel issues:

New hires: Terry Juhnke, paraeducator at L. B. Williams Elementary School, seven hours a day at $11.50 an hour, effective Jan. 11; Joyce Star, food service at LBW, four hours daily at $9.49 an hour, effective Dec. 20; Joshua Kranz, instructor at MTI, $40,400 a year, pro-rated to $20,981, effective Jan. 4; Tricia Oswald, facilities coordinator at MTI, $13 an hour, effective Dec. 21; Change in hours: Patty Hendrix, culinary instructor at MTI, from full-time to half-time at $11,082, effective Jan. 4; Resignation: Audrey Schrank, food service, effective Dec. 22, 2011.
