Big Eagle in transit to prison

Former Crow Creek Tribal Chairman Duane Big Eagle, 62, is on his way to begin a three-year prison sentence. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, he was “in transit” Wednesday.

Former Crow Creek Tribal Chairman Duane Big Eagle, 62, is on his way to begin a three-year prison sentence.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, he was “in transit” Wednesday.

Big Eagle was convicted on two counts of conspiracy to bribe tribal officials and one count of bribery.

He was scheduled to turn himself in to authorities by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Big Eagle has appealed his convictions. He and his attorney, Dana Hanna of Rapid City, must file a brief outlining why Big Eagle is appealing the convictions by Feb. 8.
