PIERRE (AP) — A South Dakota man accused of punching a female Highway Patrol trooper is to be sentenced Feb. 1.

Seventy-seven-year-old Chester Strickland of Onida last fall pleaded no contest to charges including simple assault of a law enforcement officer. His sentencing was delayed when Judge Kathleen Trandahl ordered Strickland to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Strickland is accused of punching the trooper three times in the face during a traffic stop north of Pierre in August 2010. The media reports that he told officials he doesn't remember the incident.
