Christmas tree blamed for Sisseton home fire

SISSETON (AP) — Fire officials say a Christmas tree is to blame for a fire that destroyed a Sisseton home.

Sisseton Fire Chief Jeff Pageler tells the media that five people were in the home when the fire started Tuesday afternoon as they were preparing to remove the tree. No one was hurt.

Pageler says the people in the home told fire officials that the fire started in the Christmas tree, although the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Pageler says the home is a total loss.

Six people lived in the home. They stayed with relatives Tuesday night.

Pageler says the American Red Cross out of Watertown was contacted to assist the family.
