A Fort Thompson man will spend 14 months in prison and two years on supervised release for assaulting a federal officer in July.

Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Tory Ray Kirkie, 22, on Monday. Kirkie was indicted on the charge in August and pleaded guilty in September.

The conviction stems from a July 4 incident when Bureau of Indian Affairs Officer Molanna Clifford attempted to arrest Kirkie on a federal warrant. Kirkie struggled with Clifford, and Buffalo County Sheriff Wayne Willman responded to the scene to assist.

Kirkie struggled with both officers. He swung his arm during the struggle and struck Clifford on the nose with a closed fist.
