SIOUX FALLS (AP) — U.S. Housing and Urban Development says it is renewing nearly $1.2 million in funding for eight homeless programs operating in South Dakota.

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — U.S. Housing and Urban Development says it is renewing nearly $1.2 million in funding for eight homeless programs operating in South Dakota.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan says the grants will keep shelter doors open and help those on the front lines of ending homelessness do what they do best.

The South Dakota organizations receiving the funds are: Lewis and Clark Behavioral Healthcare in Yankton; Cornerstone Rescue Mission in Rapid City; Inter-Lakes Community Action in Sioux Falls; Sioux Falls Housing; Pennington County Housing in Rapid City; Lutheran Social Services in Sioux Falls and the South Dakota Housing Development Authority.

Regional administrator Rick Garcia says HUD is renewing funding through its continuum of care programs to prevent interruption in federal assistance, and it will award funds to new projects in early 2012.
