HOWARD — Howard farmer, Mark Gieb, along with Skies the Limit Youth Foundation and the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, recently sent a holiday treat to South Dakota Army and Air National Guard members serving overseas.
Nearly 750 pounds of donated beef jerky sticks were mailed from the Howard Post Office to more than 500 soldiers and airmen who are currently serving throughout the Middle East.
A cow, as well as beef processing and postage costs, were donated by Gieb, the foundation and the diocese to express gratitude and give a little taste of home to service members serving abroad.
South Dakota National Guard leadership Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch, adjutant general of the SDNG; Brig. Gen. Ted Johnson, director of the Joint Staff; and State Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Zimmerman were on hand to recognize these community members and organizations for their generous support to the SDNG.
