Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Sanborn Boulevard.
Abigail Reed, 17, was driving a 2002 Honda Accord west on 15th and failed to stop at the stop sign. Thomas Fergen, 61, was driving a 2008 Lincoln MKX north on Sanborn when Reed’s vehicle struck his passenger’s side door.
After the two vehicles collided, Reed continued south on Sanborn and struck an electrical pole, but didn’t cause any damage to it, said Sgt. Dave Bientema.
Mitchell’s police and fire divisions and ambulance all responded to the scene. Ambulance personnel took Reed to the Avera Queen of Peace Emergency Room.
A passenger in Fergen’s vehicle refused treatment at the scene. The passenger apparently struck her head on the windshield, Bientema said.
He added that all people were wearing their seat belts, alcohol was not a factor and no one received any citations.
Reed’s vehicle sustained an estimated $7,200 in damage while Fergen’s vehicle sustained an estimated $7,300 in damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
