SCOTLAND (AP) — A $250,000 grant to the city of Scotland will help fund road improvements from Scotland High School to the Poet ethanol plant one mile to the west.
The agribusiness grant from the state of South Dakota is just the beginning of a $1.7 million project to help revitalize the small southeast South Dakota community.
Scotland mayor Ronald Orth says the designation on the road has been changed to a truck route, but the city needs a solid road leading to the ethanol plant and the hospital.
He says trucks have been backed up all the way to the highway, which has created a dangerous situation.
The city will begin bidding out the project in January with planned completion by Oct. 20.
