Area basketball roundup: Platte-Geddes boys get big game from Wagner in win

LAKE ANDES — Cody Wagner scored a game-high 17 points for the Platte-Geddes boys’ basketball team in its 57-34 win over Andes Central Monday night.

LAKE ANDES — Cody Wagner scored a game-high 17 points for the Platte-Geddes boys’ basketball team in its 57-34 win over Andes Central Monday night.

Wagner also had nine rebounds for the Black Panthers. Cody Johnson had eight rebounds and Tate VanZee had seven rebounds.

Platte-Geddes shot 21-of-64 from the field for 33 percent and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line for 57 percent. The Black Panthers had 51 team rebounds.

Gabe Couroyer scored 10 points for Andes Central. Conner Florey scored eight points and had nine rebounds.

The Eagles shot 14-of-44 from the field for 32 percent and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line for 63 percent. The Eagles had 26 team rebounds.

Platte-Geddes (2-0) plays South Central at Burke Monday. Andes Central (0-1) plays at Mitchell Christian Friday.

Freeman 62, Bon Homme 41

TYNDALL — Shaun Becker scored 18 points and picked up nine rebounds in Freeman’s 62-41 win over Bon Homme Monday.

Jordan Rinehart scored 14 points and had eight assists for the Freeman.

Kodi Larson scored 13 points for Bon Homme and Jeff Honner scored 11 points. Scott Van Winkle had five assists and five steals.

Freeman (1-1) plays at Canistota Thursday. Bon Homme (0-2) hosts Scotland Friday.

The JV game was won by Bon Homme 47-34.

Canistota 76, Irene-Wakonda 35

CANISTOTA — Cody Bunger scored 20 points to lead Canistota to a win over Irene-Wakonda 76-35 Monday.

Alex Robertson scored 15 points for the Hawks and had seven assists and five steals. Boone DeKramer scored 12 points and Eric Tieszen scored 10 points. Trevor Schroeder and Jason Van Winkle got 11 rebounds each.

Canistota shot 26-of-46 from the field and 18-of-23 from the free-throw line.

Irene-Wakonda’s lead scorer was Cash Murphy with 10 points.

The Eagles got 20 total rebounds and shot 9-of-50 from the field and 8-of-18 from the free-throw line.

Canistota (2-0) hosts Freeman Thursday. Irene/Wakonda (0-1) plays Viborg/Hurley in Viborg Thursday.

Viborg/Hurley 79, Scotland 11

SCOTLAND — Viborg/Hurley was able to keep Scotland from scoring after the first quarter in its 79-11.win Monday

Zach Kraning scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Cougars. Ryne Kludt scored 10 points and had four assists.

As a team, Viborg/Hurley shot 39-of-70 field goals for 56 percent and 7-of-14 free throws for 50 percent. The team had a total 35 rebounds.

Levi Geiman scored five points and had five rebounds and three steals for the Highlanders. Taylor Bietz scored four points and had three rebounds.

Scotland shot 4-of-40 from the field for 10 percent and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Viborg/Hurley (2-0) hosts Irene-Wakonda in Viborg Friday. Scotland (0-2) travels to Tyndall to take on Bon Homme Friday.

DELL RAPIDS — Jacob Schweitzer scored 16 points as Bridgewater-Emery defeated Dell Rapids St. Mary 68-40 Monday.

Steven Whistler scored 14 points and had eight rebounds for the Huskies. Terry Weber scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Clayton Dye and Seth Wethor each scored nine points and Dye had six rebounds.

As a team Bridgewater-Emery shot 28-of-78 from the field for 36 percent knocked down 14 of 32 free throws for 44 percent.

Cody Gannon scored 18 points for Dell Rapids St. Mary. Jason Michel scored 16 points and had six rebounds. Ben Bunkers brought down seven rebounds.

The Cardinals shot 20-of-71 field goals for 28 percent and 5-of-16 free throws for 33 percent.

Bridgewater-Emery (1-1) hosts Tripp-Delmont/Armour Saturday in Emery. Dell Rapids St. Mary hosts Centerville Tuesday.

Girls’ Basketball

Wagner 78, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 29

WAGNER — The Wagner girls’ basketball team continued its win streak with a 78-29 victory over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Monday.

Nicole Weber was the scoring leader for Wagner with 21 points. Weber also had six rebounds. Devon Brecke scored 18 points and had seven assists. Jessa Doom scored 13 points and had seven rebounds. LaShawn Medicine Horn had seven rebounds. Alexa Cimpl had seven steals and five assists.

The Red Raiders shot 34-of-70 from the field for 49 percent and went 8-of-16 from the free-throw line.

Julie Mingo scored a team-high eight points for TDA. Jessica Sandau had eight rebounds. The Nighthawks shot 11-of-42 from the field for 26 percent and 7-of-13 from the free-throw line for 54 percent.

Wagner also won the junior varsity game.

Wagner (3-0) hosts West Central Friday. Tripp-Delmont/Armour (0-4) plays Bridgewater-Emery in Emery Saturday.

PLANKINTON — Andes Central picked up a win on the road over Plankinton 43-33 in girls’ basketball action Monday night.

Morgan Flying Hawk was the top scorer for Andes Central with16 points. She also had 13 rebounds. Kellie Winckler scored nine points and had eight rebounds. Krista Winckler scored nine points and had seven rebounds.

Plankinton’s high scorer was Sachiko Risseeuw with 12 points. Katie Anderson scored 10 points. Sarah Hill had six rebounds and Jordan Achterberg had five rebounds.

Plankinton won the junior varsity game.

Andes Central plays at Mitchell Christian Friday. Plankinton (0-2) plays Corsica/Stickney at Stickney Thursday.

SALEM — Sioux Falls Christian defeated McCook Central/Montrose 52-43 in a girls’ basketball game Monday.

Hayley McCarron led the Chargers in scoring with 12 points. She had 10 rebounds and four assists. Mikkel TenNapel scored nine points and had three rebounds. Sioux Falls Christian shot 42 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free-throw line.

Kelly Binder and Sierra Miles each scored11 points for the Fighting Cougars. Miles also had six rebounds. McCook Central/Montrose shot 32 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free-throw line.

SF Christian (2-1) hosts Elk Point/Jefferson Friday. McCook Central/Montrose (1-2) plays Friday at Howard.

Winner 41, Lyman 23

WINNER — The Winner girls’ basketball team got its first win for the season, beating Lyman 41-23 Monday.

Katie Mathis scored a team high 14 points and had eight rebounds and four steals. Kennede Mathis scored eight points. Kelsey Bertram had eight rebounds and four steals.

The Warriors shot 13-of-43 from the field for 30 percent and 0-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Anna Flitner scored 12 points for Lyman. No other stats were reported for Lyman.

Winner (1-2) plays South Central Thursday in Burke. Lyman plays Sully Buttes in Presho Thursday.
