Mount Vernon boys beat Eagles 66-48

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon got 14 points from Jacob Sonne in a 66-48 win over Mitchell Christian in a boys’ high school basketball game Monday.
Mount Vernon shot 56 percent from the field and picked up its second win in as many games.
The Mustangs had three other players in double-scoring figures. Dean Frey had 13 points and Jared Long and Cameron Deinert each had 12 points.
The Eagles were led by Wes Vander Pol and Jacob Frey, who each had 11 points. Mitchell Christian won its opening game of the year on Friday against Iroquois, but is now 1-1 after Monday’s loss.
“We got off to a pretty slow start,” said Mitchell Christian coach Dennis Martin, whose team was 19 of 38 from the field. “Mount Vernon scored the first 11 points and put us in a hole right away. They just put it to us, flat out.”
Mount Vernon also won the JV game 36-32.
Mitchell Christian Junior High boys’ basketball team lost a 35-26 game to Mount Vernon Monday.
The Eagles were led by Ethan Cooper and Abiah Plastow with eight points each. The Eagles play at Kimball against Kimball/White Lake Thursday.
