Authorities probe fatal Winner fire

WINNER — A Saturday fire in Winner that took the life of a 2-year-old boy is still under investigation by local and state authorities.

WINNER — A Saturday fire in Winner that took the life of a 2-year-old boy is still under investigation by local and state authorities.

The Winner Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at 1:42 a.m. Saturday when Winner police officers on patrol noticed the blaze at 426 E. 2nd St. Firefighters arrived at the burning home only minutes later, but were unable to save it or the young boy inside.

The three people who escaped the fire were taken by ambulance to Winner Regional Healthcare Center, and one was later flown to a burn center.

Winner Police Chief Paul Schueth said the names of the victims have not yet been released.

State investigators were at the scene of the fire by 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
