The South Dakota Open Meetings Commission approved findings Thursday regarding two public reprimands it issued after state open meeting laws were violated during a building permit controversy last year in Parkston.
In a previous session Aug. 1, the commission made an oral ruling issuing two public reprimands — one given to the Parkston Planning and Zoning Commission for failing to give notice of its meeting Feb. 11, 2010, meeting and another to the Parkston Board of Adjustment for violations at a meeting Nov. 9, 2010.
James Weiss filed the complaints with the Open Meetings Commission after a building permit he applied for was denied by the Planning and Zoning Commission and his appeal was rejected by the Board of Adjustment.
Weiss’ attorney drafted the findings from the Open Meetings Commission’s Aug. 1 meeting and presented them for approval Dec. 1. The City of Parkston did not object to the findings, which were approved Thursday by the Open Meetings Commission.
