To the Editor:

USPS service is hard to replace in rural South Dakota. Numerous rural and town residents have commented that the carriers and the postmasters give their all when it comes to our roads and our postal needs. The postmasters are the small town’s trusted source of information.

Some rural residents are already on a Monday, Wednesday Friday or Tuesday, Thursday Saturday delivery system. Saturday deliveries are needed. When the mail is not picked up by the elderly for a few days in a row, their family or neighbor is notified. Others have said that if the newspaper doesn’t arrive daily, some of my friends will be dead and buried before I know it.

Multiple residents travel approximately 50 miles round-trip to make it to Dakota Central to mail letters by 8 p.m. Expansion cost in Sioux Falls is not needed as the needed resources are here at Dakota Central along with exceptional service. The USPS does not receive any tax revenue; the closure of post offices will in turn create the expenditure of tax dollars as they add to the unemployment list.

Please, everyone write to Sen. Johnson, Sen. Thune and Rep. Noem about your concerns.

You may also mail your letters directly to Mary Anderson, District Discontinuance Coordinator, P.O. Box 7500, Sioux Falls, SD, 57117-7500, or call at 333-2738 (docket: 1357324-57324, Item Nbr: 18).
