A Lower Brule man was sentenced Tuesday to 60 months in prison for assaulting a federal officer.
Damon LaRoche, 36, will also serve three years of supervised release when he’s released from prison.
A federal grand jury indicted LaRoche in July and he pleaded guilty to the charge in September.
The conviction stems from a July 4 incident when law enforcement responded to a call to remove LaRoche from a residence.
When the officer tried to remove LaRoche to another location, he bit the officer on his hands and arms several times, puncturing the skin. The injuries were severe enough to cause extreme pain.
