A Colorado man has been arrested for possession of 1.5 pounds of marijuana and intent to distribute the drug.

Casey Whitney, 36, was stopped on Nov. 19 by South Dakota State Highway Patrol Trooper John Lord for having a hole in the muffler of his vehicle.

According to court records, Whitney appeared nervous at his own vehicle and when he walked with the trooper to his patrol vehicle.

While writing Whitney a warning, Lord asked if there were illegal drugs in his vehicle, which Whitney denied.

Lord took his police service dog, Aros, on an exterior sniff of Whitney’s car, which resulted in a positive identification that drugs were in the car, according to court records.

Lord searched the vehicle and found two jars of marijuana, two marijuana pipes and a scale in the passenger compartment.

He also found a duffel bag containing several bags of marijuana.

After being arrested, Whitney said he had a total of 20 ounces of marijuana, that he grew it in Colorado and was traveling to Inver Grove Heights, Minn., to sell it, court records say.
