The annual ceremony to light the Capitol Christmas tree display took place Tuesday night in Pierre. The media reports that first lady Linda Daugaard selected a middle school student who has persevered through medical problems to turn on the 100-tree display.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard spoke about the meaning of family and paid tribute to soldiers who will not be home for the holidays.
The Capitol display is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day through Dec. 26.
