PIERRE (AP) — Bond has been set at $25,000 cash for a South Dakota man accused of stealing a woman’s car when she went inside a Pierre convenience store, and then crashing it with a 2-year-old girl in the back seat.
Jason Driving Hawk, of Pierre, made his first court appearance Monday afternoon. He’s charged with kidnapping, grand theft, reckless driving and drunken driving.
Prosecutors say the bond is appropriate because of the nature of the charges and their contention that Driving Hawk has no ties to the area.
Authorities say there were no serious injuries when Driving Hawk flipped the vehicle and knocked down a light pole early Thursday.
Driving Hawk told a judge Monday he lived in Lower Brule before moving to Pierre in September.
